Komé started in 2006 as a bento stand at an Austin farmers market, run by husband-and-wife team Take and Kayo Asazu and built on the comfort of Japanese home cooking. That stand grew into a full-service restaurant on Airport Blvd in North Loop, still family-run today.
The menu changes with the clock. Lunch runs shokudo-style — Japanese bistro comfort food with daily specials — while dinner shifts to izakaya-style small plates meant for sharing over sake. A sushi menu of traditional rolls, sashimi, and chef's specials built on seasonal ingredients runs all day alongside both. Reviewers keep coming back to the gyoza, the salmon, and a junmai sake list, and regulars point to fresh fish and generous portions as reasons to return.
A Taste of Koko named Komé to its 2025 best-of Austin list.
