The Consulate opened in Midtown Atlanta in 2016, built by chef Mei Lin and interior designer Douglas Hines, a couple who'd previously run a bubble tea shop in Poncey-Highlands before turning to full-service dining. The concept is global by design: a rotating menu that pulls dishes from around the world under one roof, paired with a craft cocktail program rather than a fixed regional identity.
Small plates anchor the format, with a lamb preparation, egg rolls, rice, pickles, and salad among the dishes diners return to, and cheesecake closing things out. The room itself is detail-driven, with an emphasis on art and furniture as part of the experience rather than a backdrop to it.
The restaurant has built a strong repeat customer base over the years, with regulars citing consistent food quality and attentive service alongside a cozy, upscale atmosphere that leans more relaxed than formal.
