Causa and Amazonia stack two Peruvian arguments in one building: a starred tasting menu downstairs working through Peru's coastal and highland traditions, and a livelier Amazonian room one flight up. Both floors cook with a specificity that vague "Latin" menus never reach.

Peruvian cuisine is one of the world's great kitchens and one of America's most underrepresented. This building is its best case in Washington — recognized by the guide year after year, and still cooking like there's more to prove.

The Spot
Causa and Amazonia occupy the same building in Northwest Washington but not the same restaurant. Causa holds the first floor, Amazonia the second, and each runs as its own distinct Peruvian concept rather than two sections of a single menu.

Both floors lean elegant and dressed-up, the kind of rooms regulars associate with special occasions. A cocktail program draws its own attention alongside the food, and service is consistently singled out as a strength on both levels.

Michelin awarded the restaurant one star in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and it was a James Beard Foundation Best New Restaurant finalist in 2023. Causa has also been recognized individually, earning a 9.4/10 from The Infatuation and a spot on Washingtonian's Best of 2025 list.
