The Spot
The Walrus and the Carpenter opened in 2010 in Old Ballard, built on a simple idea: marry a restaurant to a fishing pub. The room is small and lively, with oysters served in piles alongside tallboys, muscadet, and a tight selection of smart plates. It operates under the Sea Creatures banner alongside the group's other Seattle spots.

Oysters are the center of the menu, and reviewers regularly point to grilled sardines and a maple bread pudding as the dishes worth ordering beyond the raw bar. The menu stays narrow by design, which has earned the place a devoted following even as some diners find the food outside the oysters less consistent.

The James Beard Foundation has recognized the restaurant multiple years running: an Outstanding Restaurant finalist in 2022, an Outstanding Chef semifinalist in 2023, and an Outstanding Restaurant semifinalist in 2024. The Infatuation scored it 8.7/10.
