The Ranch House began in 2007 as a small restaurant called Josh's BBQ, opened by Josh Baum and his wife, Ann Gordon, to showcase Baum's smoked meats. When the original spot on Zafarano Drive outgrew itself, the couple moved into a larger space off Cerrillos Road in December 2011 and renamed it The Ranch House. Baum, a Santa Fe native, returned home after a culinary career elsewhere to build the new menu around the same smoked-meat foundation.
Meats are smoked over Texas oak, and the kitchen uses USDA prime steaks alongside hormone-free dairy sourced from farms that practice open grazing. The menu runs from smoked wings and chile queso to pulled pork burritos, BBQ brisket quesadillas, and baby back rib plates, with a dinner lineup of prime steaks, seafood, and New Mexican dishes. Reviewers frequently mention the cornbread, ribs, pulled pork, mac and cheese, butternut squash, and apple crisp for dessert.
The space includes a full bar, tap room, and open-air patio, styled as casual enough for family dinners and dressed-up enough for date nights. Santa Fe Reporter named The Ranch House to its Best of Santa Fe 2025 list.
