Market Steer Steakhouse is co-founded by Kathleen Crook, who serves as executive chef, and Kristina Goode, general manager. Crook grew up on a farm and steer operation in Artesia, NM, before winning a College Rodeo Scholarship and the World Champion Breakaway Roper title, then trained at Scottsdale Culinary Institute Le Cordon Bleu and cooked in Dallas before opening Steakhouse 316 in Aspen, CO. She returned to New Mexico in 2018 to open Market Steer as owner and executive chef.
The a la carte menu runs through steakhouse staples — cowboy ribeye, New York strip, wagyu — alongside bone marrow, creamed spinach, onion rings, mussels, and bread pudding. A Spring 2026 rotation adds tuna crudo, a rabbit bolognese over fresh spaghetti, a crab and poblano soup, a New Mexico lobster bake with mussels, shrimp, and green chile sausage, pan roasted halibut, and a pistachio-crusted foie gras torchon.
The Tack Room bar carries a rodeo motif through denim Chesterfield sofas, a Pendleton-fabric banquette, a Navajo-inspired rug, and shadow-box tables filled with rodeo memorabilia. Its signature cocktail, the Grand Champion, is an old-fashioned made with Wagyu-washed bourbon, and its small bites include trout rillettes and smoked duck wings with house-made giardiniera and white barbecue sauce.
Market Steer Steakhouse was selected for the Michelin Guide in 2026, and has been named among the city's best by New Mexico Magazine, the Santa Fe New Mexican, and Santa Fe Reporter, which included it in its Best of 2025 picks.
