Our Take

Pacific Cocktail Haven sits a few blocks off Union Square and plays to both sides of that location — tourists wandering in off the square, locals who treat it as a regular stop, both getting the same serious drink. The menu runs on Asian Pacific flavors but refuses to specialize into one base spirit: rum, whiskey, gin, and agave all get equal weight, alongside highballs and punches built for a crowd, not a single order. That range is the point. Nothing here reads like a gimmick cocktail propped up by one clever ingredient.

The room does its own work. Dim light, red banquettes, a courtyard for when the weather allows it — it's built to make people linger, and they do. Service keeps pace with a bar that's clearly busy every night, which is its own kind of discipline.

The recognition lines up with what's on the glass. A James Beard Outstanding Bar Program finalist nod in 2024 isn't a fluke nomination — it's confirmation of a drink list that was already doing the work. Pacific Cocktail Haven earns its crowd instead of just inheriting one from the location.

The Spot
Pacific Cocktail Haven sits where Union Square meets Nob Hill, founded in 2016 by Kevin Diedrich. The cocktail list draws on the ingredients and flavors of Asia and the Pacific, pairing classic technique with seasonal ingredients.

The menu runs long and spans categories rather than favoring one spirit. The Fo' Swizzle mixes tequila with passionfruit, vanilla, lime, and habanero; the Kinako Sidecar pairs cognac with anko, licor 43, and kinako dust; the P.C.H. Gimlet runs gin through white tea and a calamansi-papaya cordial; and Rice, Rice Baby works toasted brown rice, rice milk, and nori into a rum base. Whiskey, rum, gin, and agave all get equal billing, alongside high balls and punches.

The room is dim and lined with red banquettes, drawing a mix of tourists and locals, with a courtyard out front for cooling off between rounds.

Pacific Cocktail Haven was named a James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service in 2026, after being a finalist for Outstanding Bar in 2024.
