Our Take

La Cigale works around a single hearth, fifteen seats curved toward the fire, one chef running the entire kitchen off it. There's no reservation line to game and no tipping to calculate — a flat price buys a frequently changing tasting menu that unfolds into roughly eleven dishes by the time the night ends. That's the real selling point: a cook who trusts live fire to do most of the talking, from a bean-heavy peasant stew to housemade pork sausage to a thick slab of head cheese served with bread that tastes like it's been sitting in the embers.

The kitchen earns its showier moves too — duck aged two weeks before it hits the fire, apples seared with fennel pollen foraged within walking distance, oysters and vegetable sides filling the gaps between the three courses you actually choose. It reads like dinner theater because it is one, and the theater doesn't undercut the cooking.

Portions run small and the wait can stretch, which will frustrate anyone expecting a conventional tasting-menu pace. Those complaints are real but minor against what's on the plate. Michelin selected La Cigale for its 2026 guide, and the case for it was made at the hearth long before that.

The Spot
La Cigale is a wood-fired French restaurant in Glen Park drawing on the Occitan traditions of southern France. One chef cooks everything over live fire in a 15-seat room curved around the hearth, turning out dishes like housemade pork sausage, oysters, and a bean-laden peasant stew.

The kitchen practices whole-animal butchery exclusively and sources directly from small local producers, so the menu changes daily based on what's available. Guests select three courses, but the meal runs to roughly eleven dishes over the course of a night, including vegetable sides and plates such as head cheese with smoky bread, duck aged two weeks, and apples seared with fennel pollen foraged nearby.
