The Spot
Bohanan's occupies both floors of a building on Houston Street, directly across from the Majestic Theatre. Upstairs is the main dining room, styled with an Old-World steakhouse feel; downstairs, Bohanan's Restaurant & Bar takes a more casual approach to the same address, with an expanded patio and live jazz on weekends.

Chef Mark Bohanan grew up in Jourdanton, south of San Antonio, where his mother and grandmother taught him to cook from scratch and his grandfather passed down a South Texan's knowledge of meat and smoke. That runs through a menu built on custom-cut prime aged beef, including Akaushi beef, alongside seafood flown in daily. Regulars order the filet and chateaubriand, grilled oysters as a starter, and red snapper among the seafood options, with bananas foster a common way to close the meal.

Service and the wine program come up often among regulars, and the restaurant has settled into a role as a special-occasion destination in downtown San Antonio — the kind of place people book ahead of a show across the street.
