Top Burmese opened on NW 21st Ave in 2019, founded by Burma-born owners Kalvin and Poe as an introduction to Burmese home cooking in Portland. This original location keeps things casual, built around a Mandalay Bar and a large outdoor patio suited to relaxed, social dining. The concept has since grown into a small group, with Bistro Royale in Beaverton and Burma Joy on NW 23rd Ave operating as sister locations.
The menu runs through Burmese staples made to order: ginger salad (gin thoke'), samosas, and coconut rice served with a soy tofu curry, alongside newer additions like Oh No Khao Soi, Nan Gyi Thoke rice noodles, and a Grand Biryani built on tender boneless meat. Vegan versions run through several of these dishes.
Service and atmosphere draw consistent praise from regulars.
