SUN RICE began as a farmers market stand in 2021, moved into a pop-up residency at Deadshot Cocktail Bar, then ran a kiosk inside the Moxy Hotel downtown before settling into a permanent home on N. Williams Avenue in Boise in 2025. Co-founders Ken Tran and TJ Cruz, the latter serving as executive chef, built it as a Filipino and Southeast Asian-forward spot meant to double as a neighborhood hub for pop-ups and community events.
The menu shifts with the day. Mornings run on silogs and comfort plates; once dinner starts, the kitchen moves into a fuller Filipino street food format with skewers and a bar-and-grill feel, with cocktails running across both parts of the day under beverage director Jacob Richardson.
Regulars point to the food as authentic and the room as charming and nostalgic, with cocktails and service that keep people coming back for more.
