The Spot
Ox takes its name from the animal that tills the soil, a nod to the restaurant's focus on what the land produces. The kitchen builds its menu around a wood-fired grilling tradition rooted in Argentina, layered with culinary influences from Spain, France, and Italy. Chefs Greg Denton and Gabrielle Quiñónez Denton run the kitchen, showcasing prime local meats and fish alongside seasonal produce.

Beyond the grill, the kitchen has built a reputation for its sides and appetizers, and the bar program draws equal attention, with a cocktail list paired to a service style diners consistently point to as a strength. Ox has settled into a role as a special-occasion destination in Portland's Boise-Eliot neighborhood, the kind of place people plan a night around.

Greg Denton has been a fixture of the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef category, winning in 2017 after finalist recognition in 2016 and 2015 and semifinalist nods in 2014 and 2013. The restaurant itself was also named a Best New Restaurant semifinalist in 2013.
