Butcher & Singer occupies one of Center City West's grander rooms — nearly 40-foot ceilings, dramatic architectural detail, warm golden light — built around the look and feel of a 1940s Hollywood chophouse. It's part of Starr Restaurants, and the space is styled to match: formal but not stiff, the kind of room built for celebrations and expense-account dinners alike.

The menu runs through classic steakhouse territory: a raw bar of shrimp, lobster, and crab cocktails and oysters, steaks and chops up to the 32-ounce porterhouse, and entrees like twin lobster tails, Chilean sea bass, and rack of lamb for anyone skipping beef. Sides lean traditional — stuffed hash browns, green beans amandine, creamed spinach — and classic desserts like baked Alaska and crème brûlée close things out.

The bar takes the Manhattan seriously, with several house variations alongside a broader list of classic and reserve cocktails, backed by a wine list that ranges from Napa cabernet to Brunello. Regulars point to the steaks and the service as the draw, with the room's old-world elegance doing a lot of the work.
