The Spot
Scott's Kitchen traces back to May 2009, when Scott Umscheid entered his first KCBS barbecue competition in his hometown of Platte City, Missouri, working the chicken category alongside brother-in-law Josh Hulett, Josh's father Roger, and family friend Tyler Fadler. That competition team eventually became a permanent restaurant near Kansas City International Airport.

The menu runs through brisket, burnt ends, and other smoked meats, plus sides like cheesy potatoes, sweet baked beans, and an apple salad. Breakfast holds its own here too, with pancakes and a burrito that's built a following, and a ghost pepper item shows up for anyone chasing heat. Tacos and a house sweet sauce round things out.

Service runs counter-style, with seating both inside and at outdoor picnic tables. Beyond the restaurant, Scott's Kitchen also runs a catering operation for private events, birthdays, and corporate gatherings.
