Sibley Gardens traces back to 1935, just across the street from where it sits today, before the Piunti family took over in 1944 and moved the restaurant to its current spot on Jefferson Avenue in 1949. Mary Piunti built the kitchen's recipes from family tradition, and those recipes are still what the menu runs on today. Sam Piunti, her son, remains an owner of the restaurant at 93, with his son Nick Piunti now handling day-to-day operations and Pam Piunti overseeing the look and feel of the space.
The menu holds onto dishes that have become local fixtures over the decades, chief among them the Steak Sammy, a Downriver classic. Chicken milanese, tomahawk pork chops, and a stuffed tomato side round out a straightforward, old-school Italian menu. The restaurant also hosts private parties and events, a role it's leaned into as much as its regular dining room over its long run in the same building.
