The Spot
Saffron De Twah sits on Gratiot Avenue on Detroit's east side, a halal Moroccan bistro built around a walk-up counter rather than table service. The menu runs through modern Moroccan dishes: lamb tagine with couscous and seasonal vegetables, and cauliflower shawarma batbout stuffed into soft pita with green tahini. A beet salad also draws regulars back alongside the tagine.

Chef Omar Anani has been a two-time James Beard finalist for Best Chef - Great Lakes, and the restaurant was a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2020. Hour Detroit named it among the city's best in 2025.

Beyond the dining room, Anani runs the Saffron Community Kitchen out of the restaurant, an initiative that has served well over 100,000 meals to neighbors on Detroit's east side — community is treated as part of the restaurant's identity, not a separate project.
