New Saigon Bakery and Deli traces its roots to New Saigon Restaurant, opened in 1987 by Thai Nguyen and Ha Pham after they fled Vietnam during the war. The restaurant grew into one of Denver's known Vietnamese kitchens before the family sold it in 2017.
In 2012, Thai and Ha's daughters and sons-in-law opened the bakery and deli next door, keeping the business in family hands and shifting the focus to banh mi, along with Vietnamese sweets and street food built from recipes the family grew up eating.
The shop continues to operate on South Federal Boulevard in West Denver as a family-run counter for traditional Vietnamese baked goods and sandwiches.
