Roots Southern Table traces back to Chef Tiffany Derry's memories of her grandmother's table — Friday fish-frys, fried chicken as the centerpiece of any occasion, and a field-to-table approach that was simply how the family ate. She opened the restaurant with business partner Tom Foley in Farmers Branch, part of the T2D Concepts family.
The menu runs through dishes like the Duck Fat-Fried Chicken, My Mother's Gumbo with chicken, Zummo's sausage, shrimp, and blue crab, and a chargrilled harissa redfish served over shrimp fried rice, with Orange Juice Cake — a warm butter cake with crème fraiche — closing the meal. Regulars point to the cornbread, biscuits, and fried green tomatoes alongside a room that leans into live music and attentive service.
The James Beard Foundation named Roots Southern Table a finalist for Best New Restaurant in 2022, with Derry also a finalist for Best Chef that same year. Eater has included it among the South's essential 38 restaurants.
