Our Take

Customshop has been running the farm-to-table argument since 2007, before it was a slogan, and the kitchen still treats North Carolina produce like the point rather than the garnish. Start with a vegetable-focused small plate or two — that's where the intent is clearest — before moving into seafood or pasta. If a seafood pasta is on the menu, order it. It usually is, and it's usually the reason to be there.

The room backs up the premise instead of just decorating it: wood tables, fresh flowers, stoneware that looks handled rather than staged. It reads as upscale granola, and it earns that description because the food follows through on it — produce-driven without turning precious, seasonal without being coy about it.

Nearly two decades in, the format hasn't calcified into nostalgia. It's been recognized on national lists and picked up a Michelin selection, which confirms what the plates already argue: this is a restaurant that figured out its identity early and kept sharpening it instead of coasting on it.

The Spot
Customshop sits in Charlotte's Elizabeth neighborhood, where Executive Chef and Owner Andres Kaifer blends Latin and Italian influences with North Carolina produce sourced from purveyors across the Carolinas. The menu prints daily to track seasonality, with dishes like burrata over peach butter and pistachios, house-made pasta, blue crab ravioli, and grilled focaccia anchoring the lineup.

The room pairs a rustic dining space with a sizable bar, making it a place suited to a full dinner or a solo seat with a cocktail. The bar program takes its own seasonal, ingredient-first approach, and the wine list mixes old-world staples with newer producers.

Customshop has been named to the Eater 38, reviewed by The Infatuation, and holds a Michelin Guide Selected designation for 2025.
