Warren Tavern has occupied its spot on Pleasant Street since 1780, built as one of the first structures to go back up after Charlestown was burned during the Revolution. George Washington and Paul Revere are both on record as guests over the centuries, and the building still carries that history in its low ceilings and worn wood.
The menu runs classic New England tavern fare — lobster rolls, clam chowder, burgers, shepherd's pie — alongside shared starters like lump crab cakes, short rib tacos, Thai chicken lettuce wraps, and egg rolls stuffed with sausage and peppers. Oysters are shucked to order, and bowls like the sesame salmon round out the heavier plates. The bar pours Guinness, cocktails, and espresso martinis, and live music is part of the regular rotation.
It's a neighborhood tavern first — casual, shared plates, a place for a pint as much as a meal — with the kind of history that most bars in the city can't claim.
