Alkemē works a lane Santa Fe doesn't have much of: an Asian menu confident enough to hold its own against the city's usual chile-and-adobe playbook. Service is sharp, the room is one people want to sit in, and the food is consistent enough that regulars return instead of treating it as a novelty visit.

There's a scattering of pushback — a complaint about price here, a mediocre-food comment there — but that's a minority read against a much louder consensus of praise. Worth noting, not worth building a case on.

The outside attention matches what's on the plate. A James Beard Best New Restaurant semifinalist nod doesn't go to a kitchen that's coasting, and continued mentions from New Mexico Magazine, the Santa Fe Reporter, and Edible New Mexico across separate years say this isn't opening-buzz momentum fading out. It's a restaurant that has held its level.

That's the case for Alkemē: something distinct in a market that needed it, backed by service and atmosphere that don't undercut the food. It earns the recommendation.
