Wayfarer Bread & Pastry is a small craft bakery in the Bird Rock neighborhood of La Jolla, turning out bread and pastries baked fresh daily with an emphasis on local produce and organic ingredients. The bakery case covers naturally fermented sourdough, a multiseed loaf, baguettes, and griddled English muffins alongside croissants, kouign amann, cinnamon buns, and rotating seasonal pastry tiles topped with local produce.
In the afternoons the bakery turns its bread into sandwiches — a roast beef version with pickled onion and chimichurri, and a heirloom tomato and mozzarella sandwich on baguette. On Friday and Saturday nights, it shifts to pizza by pre-order, with meat, vegetable, pepperoni, and cheese pies.
Wayfarer has built a following for its croissants and pastries, drawing consistent lines in a small footprint. It has been named to the Eater 38 and San Diego Magazine's Best of City list for 2025, and was reviewed by The Infatuation.
