Chick & Hawk sits at 145 Leucadia Blvd in Encinitas, in the building that once housed Fulano's. The restaurant grew out of a 2020 meeting between chef Andrew Bachelier, who has cooked at Campfire, Jeune et Jolie, and Atelier Manna, and skateboarder Tony Hawk, and it moved through pop-ups around North County San Diego before landing in its current space, built around a nostalgic '90s skate-and-surf look.
The kitchen centers on crispy fried chicken, anchored by a signature sandwich called The Birdman — a fried chicken thigh with sweet-and-spicy pickles, kimchi comeback sauce, and slaw on a potato brioche bun. Spice levels are numbered 180, 360, 720, and 900, a nod to Hawk's skateboarding tricks. Ingredients are sourced from local farms, cooked without seed oils, and most components are made from scratch daily. The menu also runs to local seafood dishes like the Seabird sandwich and bluefin poké, a cocktail program, and gluten-free and vegan options.
Chick & Hawk has earned a spot on a well-known national best-of list, extending its reputation beyond Encinitas.
