Our Take

24 Suns sits in a former sports bar a good stretch from Oceanside's coastline, closer to the old mission than the beach, and it makes you travel for it on purpose. The dumplings are the tell: pudgy shrimp and scallop parcels sitting in a doubanjiang sauce silky enough to drink, the kind of dish that argues for the drive before you've ordered anything else. The dongpo pork belly, soy-braised until it goes melty, backs it up.

The duck five ways is the kitchen showing its range in one order — a honey-glazed duck leg with real crackle to its skin, and a duck neck congee that plays purely for comfort against the glaze's punch. That range extends to the room itself: tall red booths built for a date that's getting somewhere, or for a table of eight that showed up loud. The tea list runs as deep as most restaurants' wine lists, which tells you the kitchen isn't treating Chinese food as a shortcut menu.

Michelin has selected it two years running. That's confirmation, not the case. The case is a kitchen taking upscale Chinese cooking seriously in a stretch of Oceanside that gave it every reason not to bother.

The Spot
24 Suns builds its menu around Southern California's micro-seasons, applying Chinese technique and wok cooking to farm-fresh ingredients sourced from J.R. Organics and The Ecology Center. The a la carte menu shifts with the calendar's solar terms, alongside a Chef's Tasting Menu that runs nine to twelve courses.

Signature dishes include Clam Rangoons, White Seabass with Hibiscus, and the Yee Sang Prosperity Salad. The Five Regions Half Duck brings together Fujian, Sichuan, Guangdong, Shandong, and Lanzhou preparations in a single dish, spanning the range of Chinese regional cooking.

Kyle South serves as Sommelier and General Manager, curating a wine program alongside sake and tea service. Michelin selected 24 Suns for its guide in both 2025 and 2026.
