Antonio's Pizza by the Slice on the Fox Point stretch of the neighborhood is one shop in a small chain of pizzerias that began in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1991. Founder Steve learned traditional pizza-making techniques from his mentor, Bruno, and that grounding in handcrafted pies and fresh ingredients carried through as the shops spread across Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The format is counter service by the slice: classic cheese sits behind the glass alongside combinations like chicken bacon ranch and the truffle-loaded tater tot pizza. Whole pies extend into a rotating veggie lineup — tomato basil, tortellini red, Florentine, and eggplant roasted red pepper among them.
The Pizza Principal has named Antonio's Pizza by the Slice among the city's best.
