Our Take

Little Pig is a takeout window between Victorian houses on Congress Street, marked by yellow umbrellas in summer, and the format tells you everything about the confidence behind it. No dining room to hide behind, no menu padding to distract you — just Thai and Vietnamese dishes that have to earn the walk to the window on flavor alone.

The Choo-Chee bánh mì makes the case by itself: crispy fried hake coated in curry, tucked into bright pickles, built for eating on a bench rather than at a table. Piyathida's dumplings and the house-made grilled Lao sausage carry the same specificity — food that reads as someone's actual cooking, not a generic Southeast Asian menu assembled for a takeout crowd. Order, walk to the Western Promenade or the patio, and the food holds up outside the fuss of table service.

Local press has kept Little Pig on its radar, and it's landed on national recognition lists too — earned by a window operation that refuses to coast on novelty. The setup is small. The cooking is not. This is a place that proves you don't need a dining room to be one of the better meals in the city.

The Spot
Little Pig operates out of a walk-up window on Congress Street, wedged between Victorian houses on Portland's West End main strip. It's a family project, built by a blended Southeast Asian and East Coast household aiming to bring their own dinner table — and the energy of street food they grew up loving — to a takeaway counter.

The menu runs Thai-(ish) snacks and street food: Piyathida's dumplings, grilled Lao sausage made in house, the Choo-Chee bánh mì (a crispy fried hake filet coated in curry and tucked into bright pickles), Panang Nuah, and GraPow Gai Kai Dow. There's no dining room — orders get carried to a picnic on the Western Promenade or eaten at the patio out front while Portland walks by.

Portland Press Herald named Little Pig to its city magazine's best-of list for 2025.
