Mona's Cafe has operated out of Banks Street since 1987, starting as a small family bakery before growing into the café and attached international grocery it is today. The kitchen still bakes its pita fresh each morning, the traditional Mediterranean way, and continues to run on recipes passed down through the family.
The menu covers a full spread of Middle Eastern staples: hummus, baba ghanuj, muhammara, and stuffed grape leaves on the cold side; fried kibby, spinach pie, and zaatar bread from the hot appetizers; shawarma, kebabs, and gyro plates as entrées. The attached grocery stocks imported staples — tahini, olives, bulgur, baklava — alongside the café.
Where Y'at has named Mona's among its city bests.
