Baba's Hummus House & Mana'eesh Bakery traces back to Jamal, who brought his Jerusalem-rooted hummus recipe to Minnesota in the late 1970s through his restaurant, The Mediterranean Cruise Café. His children, Rana and Khalid, later packaged that family hummus into the Baba's brand in 2018, and this café marks their move into a physical space built around it.
The menu centers on hummus bowls and mana'eesh, the Middle Eastern flatbread baked in-house in a brick oven. The coffee program is sourced through Peace Coffee and reworked with Middle Eastern flavors, giving the drink side its own identity alongside the food.
Regulars point to quality ingredients, generous portions, and friendly, attentive service, along with a handful of creative specialty dishes beyond the standard hummus offerings. Some note the hummus portions themselves could run larger, but the overall value for the price has built the café a loyal following in Minneapolis.
