La Bodeguita de Mima sits in Louisville's East Market District, styled after 1950s Cuba down to its rum list. The restaurant takes its name from Mima, the family matriarch whose home cooking inspired chefs Fernando Martinez and Yaniel Martinez to build a menu meant to feed a wider family of guests.
The kitchen turns out Cuban staples: empanadas, ropa vieja, a Cuban sandwich, black beans and rice, yuca, and mahi mahi with garlic and olive oil. Tres leches and a chocolate cigar dessert round out the menu.
Beyond the dining room, La Bodeguita de Mima operates as a rum bar, and the restaurant has built out a "Havana Nights" dining experience — complete with chauffeured pickup and drop-off — along with other themed packages for guests looking for something beyond a standard dinner.
