Salvatore's traces back to 1991, when Michael Garozzo and his brother Alfio "Fred" Garozzo opened the restaurant as Garozzo's Due in Independence. After Fred retired, his son Salvatore "Sam" Garozzo ran the dining room as general manager before eventually taking ownership himself, renaming the place Salvatore's in 2003. The menu has stayed largely the same through that transition, built on the family's original recipes.
The dining room draws a steady local following for classics like veal with fried eggplant and the spiedini D'Angelo, alongside chicken spiedini and other Italian-American staples. The restaurant also handles private and semi-private events, from birthday parties to rehearsal dinners, for groups of varying sizes.
More than three decades in, Salvatore's remains a Garozzo family operation, serving Jackson County with the same recipes and hospitality that opened the doors in 1991.
