The Spot
Fredi The PizzaMan is a small-footprint pizzeria in Melvindale run by Fredi Bello, who has worked as a pizzaiolo for more than 45 years. The shop turns out thin, crispy East Coast-style pizza made with fresh ingredients, and word of mouth has consistently outpaced the number of seats available.

The pizzeria drew national attention after a viral review from Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy, which Bello says brought visitors from across the country. He went on to represent Michigan at Portnoy's One Bite Pizza Festival in 2024, and the shop has landed on the cover of PMQ Pizza Magazine along with coverage from Metro Times and the Detroit News.

Bello also runs the Fredi The PizzaMan Foundation, which has funded sensory rooms in schools and venues around Michigan, including Ford Field and Michigan State's Breslin Center, and supports Sunshine's Skills and Drills Football Clinic for children with special needs.
