Dime Store opened in 2014 inside Detroit's Dime Building, a 1912 structure later renamed Chrysler House, and the name is a nod to both the building's original savings-bank identity and the five-and-dime shops of the same era. It was started by Jeff Alexander, Larry Kahn and Ann-Marie Murphy, who set out to build a scratch-made breakfast, brunch and lunch spot for downtown Detroit.
The kitchen makes its gravies, sauces, dressings, biscuits, jam and hash from scratch, hand-cuts its fries daily, slow-cooks Sy Ginsberg corned beef in-house, and confits the duck for its hash over multiple days. The burger runs on a custom blend from Fairway Packing, the coffee comes from Zingerman's, and the mushrooms are sourced from Stoney Creek.
Signature dishes include the Duck Bop Hash and the Cheesesteak Benny, alongside a Smoked Salmon Benny, Enchilada Omelette, Brussels Caesar Salad and PBLT Sandwich, with chef's specials like a Strawberry Matcha Waffle rotating through regularly.
