Coriander Kitchen and Farm occupies a former marina in Detroit's canal district on the city's far-east side, one of the few restaurants in the city that operates its own working farm. Co-owner Gwen Meyer farms the produce and herbs on-site, and co-owner Chef Alison Heeres builds the menu around it — a Great Lakes twist on seaside classics like fish and chips, burgers, and grilled fish, alongside vegetable-forward dishes that change with the season and the harvest.
The setting is part of the draw. Dining happens al fresco along the canal, on a covered Greenhouse patio, or indoors at a retro bar with roll-up garage doors that open to the water, where boats, kayakers, and the occasional otter or beaver drift past during service.
Coriander Kitchen and Farm made Eater's Eater Essential 38 list and has built a following for its canal-side setting and cocktails.
