Kalachandji's has been serving Dallas since 1982, making it the city's longest-running vegetarian restaurant. The kitchen follows the Ayurvedic tradition of cooking for the body, mind, and spirit, and works within a strict lacto-vegetarian framework: no meat, fish, eggs, onion, or garlic touch the food. Produce is always fresh, never frozen or canned, and the kitchen uses expeller pressed coconut oil for cooking and cold pressed extra virgin olive oil for dressings.
The format is buffet-style, with a rotating daily spread that has included Kidney Bean Curry and Yellow Split Pea Soup at lunch, Panir Masala at dinner, and house-baked bread alongside both. Vanilla Sweet Rice Khir shows up as a dinner dessert. Most items are vegan by default, with dairy-containing dishes clearly marked on the daily menu.
