Riziki Swahili Grill runs on specificity. Sunday is the day that proves it, when the kitchen turns out urojo, a turmeric-and-potato soup that's street food in Tanzania, built to order with crispy sambusas, mishkaki skewers, and cassava chips stirred in as you like. That's not a gimmick dish for outsiders. It's a weekly ritual the kitchen clearly built for itself first.

The rest of the menu holds up the same standard on quieter days. Chapati fried in ghee earns its place as the tool for mopping up whatever curry lands in front of you, and the tangiwizi juice, made from fresh ginger, has enough bite to actually clear your head rather than just taste sweet. The room is small and unfussy, painted in blues and yellows that read as a direct nod to Zanzibar and the Indian Ocean coast rather than generic decor.

Columbus Monthly has taken note locally, and the restaurant has landed on national recognition as well. Neither is why this works. What works is a kitchen cooking specific dishes from a specific place with no interest in softening them for anyone.

Go on a Sunday if you can. Go on a Tuesday if you can't.
