Our Take
Chiquita Scoops is an immigrant, women-owned ice cream shop in Chicago's Gladstone Park / Norwood Park area, started by co-owners Joel and Mireya Gonzalez. Joel grew up in the neighborhood from age five, and the shop grew out of the family's shared love of ice cream and a wish to bring their Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage into a space the whole community could gather in.

The menu runs wide: handcrafted paletas de leche and de agua in flavors like mango con chile, tamarindo, and cheesecake, alongside build-your-own scoops, milkshakes, and aguas frescas. Specialty items lean playful and shareable — Churro Chisme, Concha Preparada, and La Chiquita Bonita among them — plus a savory side menu of elotes, tortas, chicharrones preparados, and weekend pozole.

The shop has drawn attention for its colorful decor and warm, family-friendly atmosphere, and has been featured in local press covering the Northwest Side's small business scene.
