Cafe El Tapatio has been serving Lake View since 1974, run by the same family that opened it as part of what one local news feature framed as an immigrant family's American dream taking root in the neighborhood. Decades later, it's still known for traditional Mexican dishes and tacos, along with a cocktail list built around its margaritas.
The space itself is small and intimate, with outdoor seating for warmer months, and has built a reputation as a long-standing neighborhood gem with attentive, personal service. The restaurant has since expanded with a sister location in Glenview serving the North Shore suburbs, and for dessert, Churro Parlor operates next door under the same ownership.
