Abhi Eatery and Bar is run by chef Abhishek Sainju, who is self-taught and began cooking as a way to recreate the flavors of his native Nepal. That starting point has since widened into a menu that pulls in Southeast Asian and Hawaiian influences alongside Nepalese and Tibetan staples.
The menu includes spicy momo dumplings, Tibetan thukpa soup, and a sushi roll called the Wham Bam Birmingham, sitting alongside other dishes built from Sainju's mix of backgrounds. Appetizers have built a strong following here, and the outdoor seating draws its own crowd on the right night.
Sainju's path to Mountain Brook ran through a sushi pop-up and a stint as co-founder and executive chef at Bamboo before he opened his own restaurant at The Summit in 2017, later relocating to its current Cahaba Road address.
