The Soup Peddler began with David Ansel making soup from scratch in a home kitchen and delivering it around South Austin by bicycle. What started as a delivery-only operation eventually became a brick-and-mortar business in 2010, giving regulars — long known as "soupies" — a place to walk in for their soup fix.
The menu has since grown beyond soup to include smoothies and juices, and the shop has expanded to six locations around Austin. Regulars point to the quality of the ingredients and the consistency of both the soups and the juice offerings, with a staff that tends to know its customers by name.
